DC Design House.. trends in flooring

As I walked through the DC Design House, I could't help but look down.  The attention to detail that was put in every room was amazing, down to every tile.  The correct choice of flooring material can make or break a room, and can make a good room to an unforgettable room!  I noticed a lot of marble tiles, chevron patterns and layering of rugs.

This chevron pattern in white marble was surprising.  Such a small tile size is unusual but it made a big impact in the small room.  The white marble also contrasted nicely with the navy blue cabinetry.
In the kitchen was a wide porcelain tile in a deep grey.  I love that the tiles were lined up in a grid like patter.  Very clean and crisp.
The pool room was covered with a linoleum which is not a fancy flooring choice but the pattern in which it was laid made the room.  It was laid in a basket weave pattern that added interest to this common material and to the space.

Another white marble tile, this time larger in size, in the same chevron pattern.  It makes a different statement as it changes size.
This bathroom was covered in one inch black and white marbled tiles.  A definite retro feel with the tiny mosaic flooring.
This is a great example of rug layering.  To cover a wood floor they layered a cow hide on a plain tan rug.  Layering simple elements to create interest.
An attention to detail on the stairs.  Simple and clean lines to tie all the floors together.

Be Inspired. Be Bold.
